10 incredible video game rumors that turned out to be true

This list of rumors is about games - we're not talking about release dates or game concepts here. Sure, the crossover sounded amazing, but it doesn't really make our list. For example; did you know you can save animal little friends? When I was a kid, I had no idea. Someone in the schoolyard said it was true, but I laughed. That's the kind of secrecy we're aiming for here.

The mysterious house of the white toad [[]

Raise your hand if you've heard this one - after completing a random stage in for NES, a mysterious White Toad House has appeared on the map. Inside, Mario might find an almighty P-Wing, the game's most useful element. This is exactly the sort of rumor that spread through elementary schools in the late '80s, and the strangest thing is that it turned out to be totally true.

By collecting an exact amount of coins in levels, it is possible to spawn a strange white toad house. Depending on the level number, you will get different items - either the P-Wing or an unnecessary anchor. The number of coins you need is seemingly random, and the levels you need to beat are completely random as well. How someone figured this out, I have no idea; but it is very plausible that a schoolboy could fall on it by accident. Learn more about House White Toad on the Mario Wiki.

    Turn butterflies into fairies [[]

Another wild secret comes from Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Butterflies normally don't do anything in this classic N64 game. They just hover around and give you a clue that there is a secret hole nearby. Otherwise, there is no reason to interact with them.

Unless you have a Deku stick. If you perform a very, very specific set of actions - holding a Deku stick near a butterfly, touch the end, then slowly walk away to lead the butterfly - the butterfly will turn into a fairy. Then you can catch it with a bottle and heal yourself! It's an extremely random secret. Who already found this one ?!

Why does it work like this? I have no idea. Maybe it's related to - in this game Mario hits a group of fairies, different objects appear! Sometimes it's a 1-Up, and sometimes it's a bomb. There is another strange secret for you.
