Yellow Pokémon, whose full title is Pokémon Yellow Version: Special Pikachu Edition, is the 4th video game of the series released in Japan and the third published instead for western markets.

The real big difference is that Pikachu follows the player out of his Poké Ball throughout the adventure. In the course of the game, moreover, the player is given the three main Pokémon, perhaps the best known ever not only in the game but also in the TV series: Squirtle, Bulbasaur and Charmander.

There are 13 specimens that cannot be captured in Pokémon Yellow: Weedle, Kakuna, Beedrill, Ekans, Arbok, Raichu, Meowth, Persian, Koffing, Weezing, Jynx, Electabuzz and Magmar. These can still be obtained, but must necessarily be transferred from the Pokémon Red and Blue cartridges.

Normally when you are under the Toxic effect (“Bad Poisoning”), your Pokemon suffers increasing damage: 1/16, 1/8, 3/16 etc of the maximum HP. You can stop these effects by swapping the Pokemon for another. When the starter Pokemon returns, it will only take 1/8 damage, as per normal "Poisoning".
