This is one of the most common causes of an ecobee thermostat losing power during heating season.
Common symptoms include: The thermostat screen will "shut off" or the screen will go completely black intermittently, usually while the thermostat is calling for heat.

Uninstall and then reinstall the app If you are still unable to login to the app, try uninstalling and then reinstalling the app.
If you are on an older version, deleting and reinstalling the app will always replace your existing app with the most up to date version.

Resetting your ecobee device to factory defaults will erase all saved settings and preferences, and removes any registration information your device has stored.
From the Home screen, press Menu.
Then select Settings.
Go to Reset.

Temporarily disable your antivirus or firewall running in the background. Now, if you can access Ecobee, be informed that your security software is causing problems. Try adding Ecobee to the set of trusted sites.
