Fast charging iPhone: tips and tricks

Quickly charge the iPhone

What I am about to propose to you are mostly healthy habits that I advise you to emulate; therefore, these are not real tricks, but tips that many of you may not know. I will therefore show you how to quickly charge your smartphone, but also and above all how not to ruin the battery.

Which chargers to use?

In the latest versions of the iPhone, Apple has introduced new technologies fast charging that can be exploited only and only by using a suitable charger. The higher the wattage of your charger, the faster the charging will be.

More precisely, you can start talking about fast charging when you have it available at least a 20W charger, but as you can see from the image below, Apple has certified its chargers up to very high powers (which can reach even the 96W for Macs) with PD: Power Delivery technology.

But be careful, such high voltages (and especially amperages) necessarily need a suitable cable! With a "Chinese" cable (so to speak, or in any case cheap) you will never, ever be able to exploit the power of your power supply. A cable is required to take advantage of fast charging USB-C to Lightning to be combined with a PD power supply with USB-C output.

The "trick" of energy saving

Another well-known trick for fast charging iPhone and iPad is to put it on charge and, subsequently, enable energy saving. The power saving mode of the iPhone allows you to limit the resource consumption of background applications that, willy-nilly, drain the battery slightly. In this way the battery charge will be much more linear and therefore faster.

However, doing it manually, every time, is boring! For this iPhone offers us the possibility of create an automation leveraging the application commands iPhone exactly as I showed you in the video. In practice you will have to create two automations: iPhone must go into energy saving mode when it is put on charge, and it must deactivate it when you disconnect it from the charger.

Do not use iPhone while charging

The screen in the first place and the applications then, are the two sources of greater battery discharge. This means that using your smartphone while it is charging becomes bad for the battery, affecting his health.

Therefore, as you could imagine, the best scenario to quickly charge iPhone and iPad is the one in which your device is charging, with the screen off and with energy saving mode active at room temperature. If you can then, you might as well consider the option of turn it off to further improve charging performance and efficiency.
