Resident Evil 3: Nemesis - How To Perfect Dodge & Cancel Zombie Grabs | Advanced combat tips

Defense items are gone this time around. In the last year's remake, Leon and Claire could equip knives or grenades to fight the undead grabby rampaging in Raccoon City. These items would shatter after just one use, and the heroes were pretty still - no last minute dodging is allowed.

The knife returns as a weapon Jill, STARS extraordinary member, can equip and use with much more finesse than her friends. His knife is a huge improvement, and much more powerful than the knife. By combining knife and dodge, you can become an incredibly agile anti-zombie killing machine. But it will take a little practice.

With this guide I will try to explain dodge, how to perform special perfect dodge move, and cover new knife tips. Used correctly, it can be really OP.

Perfect tips and dodges | Advanced combat tips

When used correctly, the Mechanic and the Dodge Knife are of incredible use. You will have to equip and select the knife to use it, and it is a powerful weapon against the living dead. Dodge helps you evade sudden attacks, and if you use it at the right time, you'll get "perfect dodge" - time will slow down, giving you the chance to unleash a counterattack against your enemy.

The timing for perfect dodging is tricky. Using a knife is much easier and simpler. Here are some quick tips on how (and when) you want to use the knife.

    • Knife Tips - How to Interrupt Zombie Attacks:
      • The knife never breaks. The knife is not a "defensive" weapon as in remake. You can use it anytime.
      • Attack just as a zombie rushes towards you to interrupt its hold. This will make them flinch briefly and stop their animation altogether.
      • To do this, hold forward to stab with your knife. Hold back after a lunge and Jill will jump back a safe distance, giving you time to withdraw your weapon.

I highly recommend practicing with the knife. Dodging zombie attacks is one of your most important abilities, and you'll probably start to wonder how you managed to survive without it for a long time.

Dodging is a little easier, but a lot trickier. The dodge ability allows Jill to fast forward, backward, left or right. You don't get invincibility frames on this dodge, so you literally have to dodge incoming enemies - dodge back if a zombie is right in front of you, or left / right depending on their direction. Dodge forward to avoid a zombie behind you.

At first the dodge seems a bit artificial, but it's a very important mechanic that you should definitely use to survive in. It's not only a very efficient method of running - you can use dodge to deal serious damage to enemies with this perfect dodge.

    • How To Perfect Dodge | Advanced technique
      • If you dodge away from an enemy attack just before it hits you, you will perform a "perfect" dodge. You will enter a slowed state where you can deliver a powerful counterattack.
      • When dealing with zombies, wait until they are very close, then watch their bodies. When you hear a whimper at a very short distance, it means they are about to attempt a grab.
      • Don't look at the hands of the zombies - look at their bodies. Dodge when they're extremely close, or just when they're making a whimper. If you're a bit far away, you can dodge them straight away and still get a perfect dodge.
      • For your safety, try to practice with a rear dodge. You can still dodge a zombie grappling hook from this beach. The timing has to be extremely tight. I recommend taking a backup, practicing, and reloading.

Perfect Dodge counterattacks can be particularly powerful. It's possible to take down Nemesis with a single Perfect Dodge and use the knife to crush his chest regulator. It's a technique that kills
