    Enable full screen "True"

by default, does not have a "true" full screen option. You are stuck with Borderless window mode which poses serious problems for some PCs. You can force true fullscreen with a simple Steam command.

    • How to activate true full screen
      • Right click on Valheim in your Steam library -> Select Properties…
      • Under the General Tab, search for " LAUNCH OPTIONSAnd enter the following.
        • - exclusive full screen in window mode

You may also need to press [Alt + Enter] twice after launch to properly switch to true full screen.

    Simple parameter changes

Some settings always hit your GPU harder than others. First try disabling the following effects and see if your FPS improves. For some of us, that's all it takes.

    How to deactivate Sysmain

Sysmain - or SuperFetch - is a Windows 10 service that preloads common applications to speed up your general computer usage. While this doesn't normally affect your CPU usage too much, some gamers report huge FPS increases when disabling Sysmain.

Here are the basic steps to turn off the service.

    • In Windows 10, type services in the Start menu search bar.
    • Launch it Application of services and locate the Service Sysmain.
    • Select Sysmain, then click with the left button Stop the service on the left.

You can restart the service from this application at any time. If you don't see an increase in FPS I recommend restarting this app and letting it do its job.

    Changing the level of detail

As a quick method to improve FPS, you can increase / decrease level of detail - or level of detail. You can do this very quickly with a few simple commands.

    • press F5 after launching to open the console command window.
    • Type the following command to change the level of detail:

Depending on the number you enter, the LOD bias will increase / decrease. If you do not enter a number, the LOD bias will revert to the default level of detail in your settings. You can change the lodbias # to whatever you want - you can even go below 1 with .5 / .4 / .3 etc.
