Do you need Nintendo Online to join friends in Monster Hunter Rise?

Monster Hunter Rise will be an exclusive Nintendo Switch title. The game was designed to run on the Switch, which means the gameplay, world, and structure have been optimized to run on the Nintendo platform. Like all games on Nintendo Switch, you have to be wary of the possibilities of playing online and what you can't. Monster Hunter Rise will have a multiplayer feature, allowing you to go on quests and hunts with your friends. However, you won't be able to do this without the Nintendo Online membership associated with your account, and your friends need it as well.

Nintendo Online membership allows you to connect to the Internet to play online with your friends. You needed this for Animal Crossing: New Horizons if you've ever wanted to visit a friend's island, and the same will apply if you want to embark on a Monster Hunter with your friends in Monster Hunter Rise. Details are available on Nintendo's eShop page for Monster Hunter Rise.

The games will consist of up to four players, so you and several friends will be able to hunt in the wild near the village of Kamura. You and your friends must prepare to face the new threats surrounding the region as the growing threat of The Rampage event looks set to repeat itself, 50 years later, in Monster Hunter Rise.

We hope that the multiplayer system will not work the same as in Monster Hunter World. It was difficult for those still playing the story to find a way to connect with your friends online, and a lot of people had a lot of issues with it when it was first released. We will learn more when it is released. However, you can pre-order your copy to pick up Monster Hunter Rise on the first day of its launch on March 26, 2021, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
