How to play each class in Darwin Project

There are three classes you can choose from before starting your Project Darwin game. Each of them comes with a different playstyle and gives you a unique way of seeing how you survive during this game. It's important to note how each of them plays, so you know how well they complement your overall style during a game.

Each class can only equip two abilities during a match.

How to play Jet Wings

Throwing wings give you the versatility of having a pair of wings on your back to fly across the battlefield. It's a fun way to jump on the map. Your standard ability allows you to glide in front of you and slowly fly forward. If you want to make sure you have enough room to cross a gap or jump between lodges, this is a great way to scour the map and stay out of reach of a player's ax. If you are facing ax attacks with another player, you can use it to quickly regain your balance and resume the fight.

The first two abilities you start with are Meteor and Blast Off. Meteor slams you to the ground while you're in the air, pushing enemies away from you. Blast Off pulls you straight into the air, giving you a great opportunity to use Meteor on any opponents below you. You can also use it to avoid incoming arrows or if you are caught off guard by another competitor's attack.

You gain Teleport at level three in Jet Wings and Ice Bolt at level 10. Teleport immediately places you at the highlighted location. Ice Bolt launches an attack that, when hitting an opponent, stops in its path for a short period of time.

Those who want to play Jet Wings will want to stay on the move and are ideal for anyone who wants to stay mobile during a fight. Meteor and Blast Off are great starting abilities, but Ice Bolt can be a gamechanger if you use it on an unsuspecting enemy.

Grapple glove

Do you want to roam a battlefield? The Grapple Gauntlet is perfect for this, allowing you to use a thin zipline to connect to almost any object, then head towards it, flying through the air like lightning. You can use it to cross large spaces or reduce the distance between you and an opponent. You can upgrade it to increase the number of times you can use it.

The first two abilities in this class, Barrier and Lockdown, are about staying close to your enemy. The barrier creates a shield around you that protects you from damage. You want to activate it right before a fight because your enemy will have a hard time getting through it until it falls. Lockdown creates a massive shield around you, preventing all players from entering it, but you and your opponents inside cannot leave it either. If you want to keep things between yourself and someone else, you can.

You gain the turret ability at class level three, then the ice bolt at level 10. You throw the turret to protect yourself during combat and help bring down an enemy. Unfortunately, it's not mobile, so if you have it, you can pair it with the ability to lock. The Ice Bolt keeps someone from moving, making it a great ability to combine with your basic grappling hook and then keep them from running away.

The Grapple Gauntlet class is all about being close to your enemy and keeping them from leaving your sight. You have several combos available, such as using a barrier with an ice bolt, locking with a turret and a barrier and an ice bolt. When you reach level 10, it's all about fighting the right combination for the way you like to play and fight.

Headhunter drone

Need a helping hand during the match? The Headhunter Drone Class comes with a companion of flying birds that you can send out for supplies while you continue to fight someone or run away. The drone will pick up the item for you and bring it to your location. It also has a short cooldown, but it's an interesting ability.

The first two abilities you receive with the class are Radar and Invisibility. The radar emits a radar pulse letting you know where other enemies are on your minimap. Invisibility makes you and your drone invisible for a short period of time. While you are invisible, you can still bring out your drone to pick up supplies for you or kill animals.

At class level three you gain the turret and at level 10 you can reduce. The turret looks a lot like the one in the grappling glove class where it descends where you place it and helps you take out any nearby opponents. Shrinkage is a unique ability that shrinks your body down to a smaller size, but you do less damage.

This class looks like the one where you go hunting down your enemies and ambushing them, but it could easily explode in your face. The radar ability lets you know of any enemies nearby and if they've left any clues. If you really want to sneak up on your enemy, invisibility seems like the best bet, which you might want to pair with a turret. You can throw down your turret, then become invisible, leaving your enemy to take on the big cannon as you sneak up on it. If you have invisibility you probably won't need to shrink, so make sure you don't pair them up.

When you reach level 10 with any of the classes, it's all about finding the right combo that's right for you. You can mix and match the four abilities of each class to suit your playstyle as you fight to survive in Project Darwin.
