How to reach a rank above 8 in the Pokémon Go Battle League

Fighting League is a brand new Pokémon Go PvP feature. In it, Trainers battle against other Trainers using their best Pokémon to try and win the day, but only the best can win. There are a handful of terms you need to know before you get involved in the league, and you need to choose your Pokémon wisely to ensure you have a good chance of winning. Each trainer receives a rank when playing the game, and the more battles there are, the more ranks he receives and the rules change at some point.

From Battle League Rank 1 to Rank 7, you gain Battle Ranks just by participating in Battles. The more you do each day, the harder you can fight. It doesn't matter if you can win or lose; you always advance in the ranks. However, the more you earn, the more chances you have of earning an additional reward for completing the leaderboard, such as meeting Scraggy and evolving him.

However, some players are a little confused when they reach rank 8. The initial thought was that they had reached it at rank 1. But that is no longer the case. Ranks after 800 had all their numbers increased from the original amount. Here are the new numbers:

    • You gain rank 8 to 2500
    • You gain rank 9 to 3000
    • You gain rank 10 to 3500

Another big difference with Rank 8 and above in the Battle League is that you have to win to advance. When you lose a battle, you slowly lose rank, so those battles count a little more during this part of the battle league.

Make sure to optimize your Pokémon for each battle, and keep specific types, max CP, and previous fights in mind before tackling them. Switching Pokémon is always a good idea if you discover a new synergy in your party.
