Is Baldur's Gate 3 coming to Nintendo Switch?

A Nintendo Switch version of Baldur's Gate 3 is incredibly unlikely. In an interview with Eurogamer, executive producer David Walgrave put an end to the idea of PS4 and Xbox One ports due to power limitations, and if the game cannot run on these machines, it will be even more difficult to get the game on the switch.

“We're focusing on PC and Stadia, but that's it,” Walgrave told Eurogamer. “I don't think the current generation consoles would be able to run it. We've made a lot of technical upgrades and updates to our engine, and I'm not sure if it would be able to work with those items. Walgrave then clarified that next-gen consoles like the PS5 could most likely handle gaming, so Baldur's Gate 3's console ports could still happen. However, it would take a lot of optimization to make the game run on Nintendo's hybrid machine. “Maybe that could work,” Walgrave said, “but then we'll have to tone down the textures and this and that and that wouldn't look so cool anymore. "

Larian's latest game, Divinity Original Sin 2, initially launched on PC in Early Access before arriving on PS4 and Xbox One with the Definitive Edition. The game then arrived on Nintendo Switch in 2019, which shows that Larian has some interest in Nintendo's console. High-performance games like The Witcher 3 have also made their way to Switch, so there is still hope for a potential port of Baldur's Gate 3 if Larian puts in the optimization work.

Baldur's Gate 3 is now available for PC and Google Stadia. The game is currently in Early Access with a full release planned after at least a year of Early Access development.
