How to catch Snorlax
Unlike much of the original 150 Pokémon, Snorlax will not regularly spawn in the wild for the Kanto event. While you may get lucky and find some on a Saturday or during the extra week you have to complete the collection challenges, during the same day of the Kanto tour it will only be guaranteed by one method: complete the timed search. and special.
We're breaking down Pokémon GO Tour: Kanto Special Research's tasks and rewards here, so check it out for the full list. Snorlax is offered in stage 5 as a reward for all three tasks. It's also available to players without a ticket as part of the Defeat All Challengers timed search. Stage 4 has a “Power up Pokémon 5 times” task that rewards an encounter with Snorlax. Complete them and swap them while the collection challenge is still on in order to check the Snorlax box and get closer to completing the set. But what if you want a shiny Snorlax?
How to get a brilliant snore
Unfortunately, the journey to catch a Shiny Snorlax could be longer for most players. Since Snorlax doesn't spawn in the wild very often during the event, you only have a few methods of catching it. The special, timed search tasks above offer one method, but luckily there is another. A GO Tour Challenger will use Snorlax as the first fighter, making it very likely that this is the one you catch after the battle.
We explain how to beat the GO Tour Challengers in a separate guide, so use it to beat them as many times as you can. It won't count towards the Challenge Collection, but meeting Snorlax here will give you a higher chance of catching a shine. Otherwise, you'll have to wait and encounter more in the wild or through searches or raids later. The more you come across, the more likely you are to end up with a Shiny Snorlax in your Pokédex.
