Is the Making a Splash Ticket worth buying?
Even if Community Day hasn't started for you yet, the Making a Splash ticket should be available in the store. Costing just $ 1 or your local equivalent, special research isn't the costliest thing in the world. Tickets for GO Fest 2020 are $ 14,99, so it's a steal in comparison. However, it doesn't offer as much value, so it's hard to say if the Making a Splash ticket is worth buying.
We'll update this guide once all the details are known, but currently we don't know what specific tasks or rewards the ticket offers. However, from what Niantic said, the big reward you get is more Magikarp candy. This matches previous Community Day posts, which had four stages to complete and gave players tons of extra candy and encounters with brighter odds.
So the question comes down to how much value you place on a Shiny Magikarp and whether you need any extra candy. You'll have six hours to catch them, so you should end up with at least one Gyarados, but if you want more, it might be worth $ 1. The highest chance of shine is good, but you should get a lot of it as well. So really, research might not be worth it for everyone, but at such a low cost, if you play for most of the day, it's a good bonus for the event.
How to Complete the Making a Splash Special Search
We'll find out all the steps later today when the rest of the world can participate, but for now we can speculate. Previous Community Day tickets weren't difficult to fill, as they tasked players with catching more Pokémon from the event or getting big throws and / or curved balls.
