Super Mario 3D All-Stars: Obtain the 121st Secret Star in Mario Galaxy

And it's still 120 stars. That's how many there are, so that's how many there are! Right? Okay, I have something terrible to admit. I never really knew there were 121 stars in. Honestly, my fingers are crossed and I hope you didn't know that either. This game came out at the very beginning of Youtube, and we didn't have easy access to endless information - and you have to do an absurd job to get that final star.

Earn the 121st star in Super Mario Galaxy

Getting the 121st star is no easy task for one simple reason - Super Luigi Galaxy. After collecting the 120 stars in, you will be able to save Luigi the other way around - Mario saves Luigi from a haunted house, instead of the other way around.

Super Luigi Galaxy gives you control over Mario's goofy brother, Luigi. He can jump higher, has less friction in his movements and takes longer to reach his top speed when running. Basically it's harder to control - and to get the last star you have to collect the 120 stars with Luigi. Look, I have more than enough patience to get the 120 stars and unlock Luigi. I absolutely didn't have the patience to do it all over again with Mario's less cool brother.

But, we are talking about the 121th star. After getting the 120 stars with Mario AND Luigi, you will unlock a special bonus area called Grand Final Galaxy. This is the final zone, a really special place that I seriously doubt many of us have made it to. The area has been Princess Peach's castle from the start of the game - and there are 100 purple coins to collect here.

It's pretty cool to replay the first area and explore in detail. Finding the 100 purple coins gives you the last 121 stars - but seriously, it's more like 241 étoiles.

In the sequel, Luigi is just a playable character. It's much more tolerable than replaying the game with a lame version of Mario. But I have to give the original props, it gave us something cool at the end of a long completionist road. I absolutely can't say the same for and that lame postcard you get for 100% of the game.
