All changes in the Pokémon Go Mega Evolution update

All changes in the Pokémon Go Mega Evolution update

Mega Evolution was released on Pokémon Go as a mixed bag. On the one hand, it's amazing to see the mighty Mega Pokémon fight and be able to face them in Mega Raids with a handful of friends. On the flip side, attempting to mega-evolve your Pokemon and collect Mega Energy is a huge task and encourages players to purchase Ranged Raid Passes to participate in these raids on a regular basis. What's worse is that a Mega Evolved Pokémon is only four hours away before you have to start all over.

But Niantic has listened to what players have said about Mega Evolution and is making some changes to the system. So far, these are the first two big changes to the game in a minor update.

    • The need for Mega Energy for Mega Evolve a Pokémon that already has Mega Evolved has decreased (Mega Blastoise, Charizard, and Venusaur now cost 40, and Beedrill costs 20).
    • The amount of Mega Energy that Trainers receive from winning Mega Raids has increased.

By decreasing the required amount Trainers must receive to Mega Evolve their Pokémon later, and increasing the amount they receive from Raiding, Trainers can see these powerful Pokémon more often. This is great news and a good change of pace. However, Niantic is not yet finished. It plans to make even more changes and in the future you can expect these new additions to arrive for Mega Evolutions.

    • Walk With Your Boyfriend To Gain Mega Energy
    • More ways to gain energy through research tasks and other game modes
    • Earn bonus candy by catching Pokémon that share a type with your Mega-Evolved Pokémon

We don't know when any new features will be available at this time, but we'll likely see them added in the next few weeks. This is all extremely nice to see as the trainers felt they were forced to purchase multiple Remote Raid Passes for Mega Evolve their Pokémon once. Now, it looks like Niantic wants players to be able to do this on a regular basis, and those not at the highest level can probably participate in this feature more frequently. It's a welcome change, and we'll see how the new changes work when they're released in the future.
