Warframe, like all free-to-play games, has a premium currency called Platinum. Platinum can be used to purchase weapons, warframes, and other in-game gear. Even though the majority of in-game items can be earned by playing, Platinum allows people to shorten shortcuts if they wish. There are other items, such as Deluxe Skins, which can only be purchased with currency.
A quick note here, Platinum cannot be used to purchase user-created skins through the Tennogen program. These can only be purchased in real currency on the platform you are playing on.

You can purchase Platinum sets from the Warframe website for real world currency. An important point about these packages is that you can get price discounts by logging into rewards. Login rewards are randomly generated, but there is a chance to get up to 75% off the price of a Platinum plan.

When introducing a new Prime Warframe, different levels of Prime Access are available. These will contain various in-game elements, including Platinum. You can also purchase Prime Vault packs when older primers are not secure, but they contain less platinum. You can purchase one of the two Warframe websites.

From time to time, Digital Extremes will distribute platinum bundles during its Devstreams, or as part of competitions and events. They can also organize events with Youtubers partners and Twitch streamers to give Platinum.
