Call of Duty War Zone, the last great battle royale game to hit the market, will be available on all major platforms on March 10, including PS4, Xbox One, and PC. With the Call of Duty formula proving to be a great fit to the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 battle royale experience, but stuck behind buying the full game to play, Warzone is expected to allow Activision to expand and develop. add content independent of the main series.
It uses a massive map that encompasses a number of stages in the series' history, as well as weapons and mics fans have come to expect from the series. It's a standalone game, which means it doesn't require a copy of the 2019 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare version to play, while the free to play element removes the download barrier.
But what about mobile platforms? Call of Duty Mobile has grown into one of the most popular mobile games of all time in a very short period of time, having already racked up over 100 million downloads on iOS and Android devices. Also a free, payable app, it includes multiplayer on a number of classic maps.
The foundation for Warzone mobile exists, with the mobile app being considered fairly stable on most devices. However, there is currently no official word on whether this new game will be available on handhelds. Games like PUBG Mobile and Free Fire have proven that a stable shooter can perform in battle royale format on the small screen, but both use third-person perspective above first-person. A fully first-person experience that is fair and fun while still being stable is a huge undertaking, and you would think tradeoffs should be made.
While a mobile version is unlikely to be available anytime soon, the popularity of Call of Duty Mobile may encourage Activision to invest in a mobile version for Warzone, provided the major platforms are performing well.
