Does Unova Week have a timed research event in Pokémon Go?

The final week of Ultra Unlock has arrived in Pokémon Go. It's a full week for trainers to capture a variety of Pokémon from the Unova region, first encountered in Pokémon Black and White. Sewaddle, Cottonee, Emolga and Bouffalant make their debut in the series. The first three first appeared during Pokémon Go Fest 2020, but will now be available to everyone. However, Emolga will be a rare encounter. The first Ultra Unlock, Dragon Week, featured a research task that gave players rewards for earning two Deino encounters if they completed all missions. Sadly, it looks like Dragon Week was the only one of the three to receive one.

The Unova week will not have a timed research task. The Pokémon Go blog has gone out of its way to announce that Dragon Week will be receiving a timed research task. The other two weeks, Enigma and Unova, were not mentioned for having one. Many believed it would happen during Enigma Week, but there was no timed research when the event happened. There were only Field Research tasks that you could receive by running Poké Stops and Gyms.

The first week had been a milestone for many Pokémon Go trainers. The event was heralded as an opportunity for trainers to catch two Deino's through the timed research task. It was going to be available via 7 kilometer eggs, the ones you received as gifts from friends. This encouraged players to find ways to walk and eat so many of those 7-kilometer eggs to increase their chances of a third Deino showing up and being shiny.

Fans were disappointed to learn how low the odds of this happening were. Many discovered it was incredibly rare, pulling the rug out from under them. The news spread on Reddit, soured Enigma Week, and added more conflict with Unova Week.
