Everything we know about Mega Evolution in Pokémon Go

Mega evolutions are coming to Pokémon Go to make your pocket monsters even more powerful in battle. Mega Evolution is a step above the final evolution that a Pokémon can undertake. This usually only works for one battle. After a fight, the Pokémon returns to its standard form. Things will work a little differently for Pokémon Go than it does for traditional Pokémon games. There will be more candy, different mechanics, and new terms for players to learn.

We don't know when the Mega Evolutions will arrive in the game, and we have limited information on the Pokeminers Group who were fortunate enough to take a look at the back. They posted their findings on Reddit, but none of this has been officially confirmed. We will make sure to report what information we use from when it was posted and what Niantic has shared on the matter.

How do you make mega evolve Pokémon?

From what Pokeminers can tell, Mega Evolution will be available through Mega Candy. It is assumed that the Mega Candy you earn from playing the game will be how you evolve your Pokemon. Yet the information there is limited, and even the data mining team is unsure. However, they discovered that a mega evolution only happens for a limited time. It won't be forever and if you want to use it again you will probably need more Mega Candy. Your Pokémon will have sophisticated animation when they perform the mega evolution and return to their normal form.

The breakdown of data mining allows us to assume that trainers have the first opportunity to use it through a quest. The quest for mega evolution will probably be available to everyone on a specific day. There will likely be a variety of tasks all players can complete and complete in order to receive their Mega Candy for the first time. They don't know if this quest is something that will be a one-time affair or if it's something you need to do for each species of Pokémon before it can mega evolve. If it's the latter, trainers are about to go through the same steps for every Pokemon they want to mega evolve.

How do you get mega candies?

Mega Candy will likely be available through the Mega Evolution quest mentioned in the Blackout. There are no quest steps or rewards, so we're not too sure. Chances are you can earn them as well by completing Evolution Mega Raids, which were also down. The more Mega Raids you do, the more Mega Candy you receive, in theory, giving you access to more Mega Evolutions. These raids will be accompanied by special music to commemorate the special occasion.

What is a mega raid?

A mega raid will likely be the same as traditional Pokémon Go raids. Instead of fighting a more powerful Pokémon, you and a team of trainers fight against a Pokémon that's supposedly in its mega evolution. It might as well be raids where you're allowed to use Mega Evolution Pokémon. We're not quite sure what that could be, but it's probably the first of the two choices.

How powerful are Mega Evolved Pokémon?

We don't know how powerful they will be. It will either be a direct increase in Pokémon stats in this form, or it will be a percentage of their standard stats. The answer gives us a glimpse of the power of some mega evolutions when the format comes out. Either way, an Evolved Mega Pokémon will be more powerful than its already fully evolved form.

Mega evolutions have mega energy

The Pokéminer breakdown also spoke of mega energy. The details of a Pokémon's mega energy are completely unknown. We don't know if this has to do with how many times an Evolved Mega Pokémon can fight. If it's a cooldown, when it runs out, the Pokémon will revert to its standard form or whatever. But we do know that they will be tied to a mega energy meter, so it's worth noting for the future.

How long will a Pokémon stay in its mega evolution?

We are not sure, but we know this is a temporary condition. Your Pokémon will not remain its mega evolution forever. We don't know if this mega evolution will happen outside of combat or during battle. For example, when your Charizard is using its mega evolution, it can cycle for 24 hours until it returns to normal.

A Pokémon's mega evolution could also be related to its mega energy. If the mega energy runs out first, although the 24 hour timer is not activated, it could revert to its standard form. This is pure speculation, however.

Which Pokémon can use Mega Evolution?

Any Pokémon that has a mega evolution in the traditional Pokémon series can use the mega evolution. We don't know if you need to complete the Mega Evolution quest first, or if you need to complete a quest for each Pokémon species that you want to use a Mega Evolution on. But, Niantic has confirmed that you don't need to use special Pokémon. So, the first Charmander you caught when you first started playing Pokémon Go? It can become its mega evolution. You won't have to go out of your way to capture a particular Pokemon, but we think Mega Candy is what you need.

We are still processing a lot of the information. However, as the details surrounding the mega evolution have made their way into the game, you can expect to hear an announcement surrounding it relatively soon. We will probably receive it at the end of August or September. Suppose it is at the end of September. In that case, it could be linked to the return of Team Rocket, which, before July, was going to lie dormant until the end of September.
