How ship customization works in Star Wars: Squadrons

Star Wars: Squadrons is more than awe-inspiring air combat and intense space battles. Creating your own unique Starfighter to stand out on the battlefield is possible thanks to the in-game customization elements.

With that in mind, you'll want to know how ship customization works in Star Wars: Squadrons. We're here to give you an overview of all aspects of your ship's equipment, so let's get right there.

What are ship components in Star Wars: Squadrons?

Components are unlockable items that you can equip your Starfighter with. You get them by earning requisition points and you can add them to your ship to change how they function and what abilities you have.

There are seven component slots you can attach, six if you're piloting a TIE Starfighter other than the Reaper, and tweaking them will create your own loadouts to suit your specific playstyle. The locations are:

  • Primary weapons
  • Auxiliary locations (x 2)
  • Countermeasures
  • shell
  • Shields (not available for TIE fighters, bombers and interceptors)
  • Moteurs

What are active and passive components?

The active and passive components are customizable and have different effects on the battlefield. Active components are tuned to reverse the course of your actions, while passive components alter your ship's performance depending on how you manage your power levels. The three types of active components concern:

  • Primary weapons - these are your laser cannons. They can range from short, rapid-fire laser bursts to long-range, more powerful shots.
  • Two auxiliary locations - these relate to the secondary abilities of your ship, such as repair robots, space mines and tractor beams. You can only select one of each type, so you cannot equip two Repair Bot components.
  • Countermeasures - these components help you to avoid enemy fire. Research warheads, for example, take out missiles heading your way, while sensor jammers can prevent enemies from locking on to you.

Passive components are the other three parts of customizing your ship. Each has a strength and a weakness, however, make sure you are aware of the tradeoffs between each. These are:

  • Moteurs - these components can change the speed at which you move on the battlefield. Some offer greater speed, while others can damage your enemies if your ship explodes with them nearby.
  • shell - Changing your hull component can provide you with additional protection against enemy fire or give you better maneuverability.
  • Shields - Shield components can give you better protection against different enemy projectiles. Some may protect you better from torpedoes, but won't stop laser fire as easily.

Can I personalize my Starfighter with cosmetics?

Yes. All eight Starfighters can be customized. You can change your ship's paint, decals like the Phoenix Squadron Starbird on the side of ships, cockpit holograms, and more. You can even add trinkets to your cockpit, which you'll see in-game as you play.

Be aware that your ship's cosmetics will only apply to multiplayer matches. The game's single-player campaign will set you up in traditional cockpits rather than ones you've tailored to your own look.
