How to beat and capture Cryogonal in the Pokémon Go raid, its weaknesses and counters

Cryogonal is an Ice-type Pokémon from the Unova region, and for a limited time during raids you have the chance to capture it in Pokémon Go. Although this is not a five-star raid or of a legendary Pokémon, it remains a tough opponent. Deleting it will be a bit of a challenge, and with the right Pokémon and strategies at your disposal, you may be able to delete it yourself.

Cryogonal weaknesses

Cryogonal is purely an Ice-type Pokémon, which makes it weak for Fighting, Fire, Rock, and Steel-type Pokémon movements. It's only ice resistant, which means if you have multiple Fight and Fire type combos, you should do pretty well. However, you can still use a Rock-type Pokémon to counter its muscular attacks.

Pokémon Cryogonal Counters

Some of the best choices available to you for fighting this Pokémon include Metagross, Blaziken, and Conkeldurr.

Metagross is a Steel and Psychic type Pokémon. While you don't want to lean into any of Metagross' Psychic-type moves, this is a great Steel-type choice, especially if you have the meteor mash with charge move. The quick attack for the Pokemon can vary, but the punch is probably the best option. You can place Metagross anywhere in your roster and do exceptionally well against Cryogonal.

The next option is Blaziken, the Fighting and Fire-type Pokémon. It's an exceptionally strong Pokémon, but it leans more towards the offensive mindset. It's not a defensive Pokémon, so you'll want some decently sturdy alternate options alongside Blaziken. You want to have one that knows backlash and gunfire, fire rotation and explosion burn, or back explosion burn. All of these are relatively strong options when fighting Cryogonal.

You can also choose Conkeldurr, a Fighting-type Pokémon. Much like Blaziken, it has an exceptionally high attack volume, with reasonably low defense, but it's an ideal raid Pokémon. Another good thing about it is that it's resistant to Dark-type attacks, and some players have reported fighting a Cryogonal in raids that have a night slash, which would be a great way to counter this attack if you face one. It's slim, however. You want to use one that knows the counter and dynamic punch or the counter and focus.

There are a wide variety of different Pokémon to use against Cryogonal beyond the three mentioned above. You can still use Darmanitan, Entei, Heatran, Moltres, Reshiram, Machamp, Chandelure, Terrakion, Charizard, Flareon, Arcanine and many more.

Some players are curious about being able to play Crygonal solo, and the answer to this question varies. Most of the time, higher level Pokémon Go players have reported being able to take down a Cryogonal, but it is possible. If you stick with the weak Pokémon in Cryogonal, you should do exceptionally well against it.
