iPhone X: Set up and use Face ID

The absence of the home button on the new iPhone X has led Apple to invest in new features. We are talking about the Face ID, that is the set of sensors able to recognize the owner's face. With this method it is also possible to authorize payments with Apple Pay or access apps that require the password.

Configure Face ID

Generally the Face ID configuration is proposed at the time of activation of the new iphone, but if you had ignored this request you can still configure it at any time.

iPhone X: Set up and use Face ID

To do this, just go to the settings and find the Face ID and code entry. Enter the code (if you have it) and tap Configure Face ID and then Start.

The wizard will start in which you will have to frame the face in the frame that will appear and then move the head to make the green circle become. You will need to perform two scans in order to capture the face more accurately.

Unlock the device with Face ID

To unlock the device just turn on the display and secure it. When you notice the lock that opens, it means that the iPhone has recognized your face. Keep in mind that, as for the touch ID, also for this new technology you have to enter the code when starting the device for the first time.

Pay with Apple Pay in-store

Of course, Face ID can also be used to make purchases with Apple Pay and the credit cards associated with it. Just press the side button twice and select the card to use. Then you will have to look at the iPhone screen to authorize the payment through the Face ID and then bring the device close to the contactless reader. As soon as you see the check mark it means that the payment was successful.

Pay on iTunes and unlock apps

This new function can also be used to pay, for example, on iTunes or the App Store or to authenticate to apps that require a password (and that support Face ID). The operation is the same: just look at the screen.

Some tricks

Keep in mind that to make the best use of Face ID, it must frame you in an optimal manner and must not be covered by cases. It should recognize your face even if you wear or take off your glasses, hats or cut your hair. However, some types of sunglasses may block the passage of infrared lights and make your face not recognized.
