How to get Exotic gear in Marvel's Avengers
Exotic gear can be obtained by completing missions, opening chests, and defeating enemies. Exotic gear is red and is much rarer than anything else in the game. It can only be found after your character is at a very high level. Exotics in Avengers aren't as unique as those found in Destiny or other games, but the buffs and percentage boosts they've attached to them are better than anything you can find. Most of the Exotics found by the Avengers community so far have a potency level of 130 or higher, indicating that these items won't drop until you are near max level.
You can actually get a few guaranteed Exotics from some missions, but only Major Artifacts. The Norn Sacred Stone of Lethal Will is obtained midway through the Campaign shortly after reaching Ant Hill, while Tactigon is obtained after completing the main story. In the Avengers Initiative Mode, completing the Reigning Supreme Mission Chain will reward you with Dark Hold. Each of these is a Major Artifact, meaning they provide a boost to your total power level which caps out at +10. You'll need this to hit the current max level of 150, as gear alone can only get you to 140.
Best exotic farming strategies
There are three ways to farm Exotics in Marvel's Avengers. The first is to play War zone missions and make all the goals optional. The Utah Badland War Zones are the best places to do this as there are several points of interest in this area. Simply load up a mission and examine all of the question marks you see when you activate Tactical Awareness (above on the d-pad). This way you will find a bunch of high level chests and enemies to maximize your chances of getting that chance.
The second method is to run Drop zones as quickly as possible. Drop Zones are Marvel's Avengers shortest missions, and they basically only feature start-to-finish combat. This strategy takes all the grease out of navigating a war zone map and just lets you beat baddies after baddies until you take out an exotic from one of them.
Finally, run Urticaria is your best choice to get exotic gear in Marvel's Avengers. Beehives are the most difficult missions in the game. They force you to fight tier after tier of enemies and give great rewards if you do well enough. Mega hives are coming to the game with a post-launch update, and these will likely offer an even greater challenge and offer greater rewards in turn. AIM's Secret Lab will also be a great way to farm gear, but that will also happen to Avengers at a later date. Exotics are incredibly rare, but these activities will maximize your chances of getting that elusive drop.
