Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order Review

After a decade, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, a Black Order Switch exclusive, has come to bring the MUA franchise to fans of the superhero arcade genre. Both the previous MUA and XML (X-Men Legends) games were so loved and adored by fans that to date new online mods and fan-made fixes have been created and shared through underground online forums. However, in 2019 Nintendo and Team Ninja decided to reorganize us for the future by bringing us this title. After a long wait, it seems that the first impressions are mixed ...



Development and reception

The development of this game was officially unveiled at an E3 conference with a short game version, reassuring fans that it will be the same game, only introduced in the present day. Development is being handled by the Japanese Ninja team, known for their fighting games Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive, and it's immediately obvious that MUA3 has been influenced by Japanese artwork, for the better, of course. So far the game has scored 74 points on Metacritic and generally scores between 7 and 8 stars on most sites. Indeed, this is a game designed only for Nintendo Switch, which is a laudable success.

The Story

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 takes place in its own universe, separate from the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, and even the last two MUA 1 and 2 games. Organizing the game in this way is understandable, as the last two titles have generally taken the player to through most of the global threats encountered in comic book stories. In MUA3, the story is closely tied to the characters included in the game and their reveals, which occur as you progress through the game in much the same way as in Mortal Kombat 9, 10, and 11.
