How to get and use poffins
Previously, Pokemon Go's Buddy system was as easy as selecting a Buddy Pokemon and then you earn candy to walk with that specific Pokemon. The Buddy Adventure system is much more in-depth, which starts with feeding your Pokémon to join you on the map.
You can feed your Pokemon foods like the berries you previously collected, but now Poffins are also one of those foods that you can feed them. However, unlike Berries and the like, Poffins cannot be earned from PokeStops. Instead, the only current way to get Poffins is to purchase them from the in-game store for 100 coins each.
Once you've purchased as many Poffins as you want, go back to the home screen and select your buddy at the bottom left of the screen. From there, select the upper right corner of the screen with the Berry icon to open an option to use AR to get your friend out or you can more easily click on Quick Treat.
At this point, you can choose from all the foods you have, whether it's a Nanab Berry or if you've bought the Poffins. The specific purchase of Poffins and then feeding them to your Pokémon will extend the duration of your Pokémon by your side on the world with at the same time. This is how you can win your heart for the day while they are walking with you.
If you've already taken your Pokémon out into the world and want to give it a Poffin to extend the duration, you can select your friend again in the bottom left and this time select Play. You have to use the AR option this time, so have her appear in front of you, then select the food option and feed her if you want.
