Pokemon Sword and Shield - How to Overcome Legendaries Past

How to overtake the legendaries

The original Red and Blue Pokemon introduced players to the Legendary Trio of Birds and Mewtwo, as well as Mew later through the events, with the number of different Legendaries that have continued to grow over the years. While these Legendaries can usually only be captured in their respective games, they can still be brought into new games through trades or methods such as Pokemon Bank.

With the removal of the National Dex, Pokemon Sword and Shield lost the ability to bring in legendaries from the past it appeared. However, yesterday Nintendo Direct gave us some great news with the addition of over 200 missing Pokémon, the Legendaries being some of them.

Although it is not yet available in Pokemon Sword and Shield, we do know how you can get these ancient legendaries in two ways. The first of these will be through the introduction of new areas known as Pokemon Dens as part of the second expansion titled The Crown Tundra.

The Crown Tundra is slated to launch in fall 2020 and can be obtained by purchasing the Expansion Pass for $ 29,99. When that kicks off, you'll be able to team up with three other players in a new co-op experience in the Pokemon Dens where you can take on these Legendaries in what looks like Dynamax fights and allow you to catch them. We don't know if they will be rolled out slowly or if they will all be available there, but they will arrive.

The other method that will be available for past Legendaries is to get them either through Trade or Pokemon Bank from previous games. We learned that in order to catch the 200+ returning Pokémon that would require the Expansion Pass, they can still be obtained without paying for the Expansion Pass in this way. This should be the case with legendaries as well, so we'll have to wait until this fall for a chance to capture those past legendaries again.
