Suicide Squad: Is Kill the Justice League in the Arkham Universe?

Suicide Squad: Is Kill the Justice League in the Arkham Universe?

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is Rocksteady's latest upcoming game and features four prominent DC super-villains as they hunt down and attempt to kill members of the Justice League. As he is familiar with the history of Suicide Squad, Amanda Waller implanted explosive devices in the body of each member, so that they were forced to listen to his orders.

The big question, however, is this part of Rocksteady's Batman: Arkham universe? We know Gotham Knights will be set in a separate universe with a whole new story being told, but it's Rocksteady we're talking about. How is this story structured?

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League dans l'univers d'Arkham?

I have good news for fans of the Arkham games, as Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is set in the same universe. Sefton Hills of Rocksteady said, "This is a continuation of the Arkhamverse, so a lot of threads and storylines that you're going to see come to fruition in this game."

Although set in the universe, we are not sure at the time of writing this article when the game takes place in this timeline. This can mean several things depending on whether it takes place before or after the events of Batman: Arkham Knight. Let's see what this means in both circumstances.

After Arkham Knight

Suicide Squad: Is Kill the Justice League in the Arkham Universe?

Batman: Arkham Knight was the last game released from Rocksteady in 2015. If Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League takes place after the events of this game, it means that some important characters may not appear in the game, at least in a sense. traditional.

For starters, the Joker died of titan poisoning in Arkham City and it looks like all traces of his reach have been eradicated in Arkham Knight. If Joker is dead at this point in Suicide Squad history, he obviously won't have any appearance other than a Harley Quinn flashback or hallucination. In Arkham Knight, Harley is still madly in love with Joker and would always do anything for him, so it's not unreasonable to think that she will have a reference to him in the next game.

Another key factor if the game takes place after Arkham Knight is that Batman's identity is known and he is presumed dead. In the closing events of Arkham Knight, Scarecrow asks Batman to reveal to the world that he is Bruce Wayne. Following this, Bruce tells Alfred to apply the Knightfall Protocol, which sets off a series of explosions at Wayne Manor, presumably with the two inside, in front of a crowd of reporters. While it is not confirmed that Bruce and Alfred are dead, they could at the very least be retired at this point. Potentially, the events of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League could pull them out of retirement, but that is only speculation, and we may not know the answer for a long time, as the game is slated for release in 2022.

If the game takes place after Arkham Knight, it's possible that we will see new appearances from Mr. Freeze, Azrael, The League of Assassins, and more. Still, given that this focuses on the larger-scale DC Universe, Rocksteady might want to refrain from tying up some ends of previous games that might not feel necessary.

Pre Arkham Knight

Suicide Squad: Is Kill the Justice League in the Arkham Universe?

If Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League takes place before Arkham Knight, it means Batman is still active in Gotham City and his identity is still unknown. It would make its inclusion in the game a lot easier for Rocksteady. However, that still doesn't guarantee Joker a place in the game as he dies in Arkham City, but it would mean Batman's psyche is shattered after his death.

If the game takes place even before Arkham City, it could set up a storyline where Harley Quinn has left the Joker for the time being and is trying to make a name for herself. However, that would put Rocksteady in a corner with Harley's character, where she's forced to go back to see the Joker, so they might want to avoid that.

During the final moments of Batman: Arkham Origins, Amanda Waller attempts to make Deathstroke work for her. We can assume this is his start to put together the Suicide Squad, but as of this writing, there is no mention of Deathstroke in the upcoming game. It could mean he turned it down, or maybe he took the job and died or went his own way. Interestingly, Waller was not shown talking to Deadshot in Arkham Origins as both characters appeared in that game.
