Disable app notifications on CarPlay

While we haven't gotten to the cars that are truly Smart through and through, small steps are being taken every day to make this future a reality. One of the best ways to do this is through an integrated connection to our mobile. In short, what lacks the computing power inside the car (at least as regards functions less necessary for driving performance and the like) and therefore something that our Smartphone can do easily.

Among the first to have currently implemented this system in an easy and intelligent way we can find Apple, which invented its C just to allow compatible products (iPhone and iPad) to connect to the machine system. CarPlay is considered to be one of the most stable and easy to use systems, with much more satisfying graphics and some functions that are completed in a simpler and more adequate way.

That said, not everything is just perfect for every trade we want. If there is one thing that you should always pay close attention to, it is the matter of notifications. Precisely these, which are so dangerous since they distract us from our driving, can tend to appear too often if we give you the opportunity. For this, deactivation from the CarPlay display can currently be adapted. It is true that the system is designed to be as less intrusive as possible on this aspect, but for those who are always distracted with extreme ease ... it is absolutely necessary!

So let's see how you can turn off program notifications under CarPlay

First, open the settings of your iPhone / iPad. Once inside, open the notifications. Look for the App that gives you problems concentrating behind the wheel: once you have found the problematic program, click on it. In the options that are made available, there is one that says "Show in CarPlay". Disable that feature and from then on, the App will no longer display notifications through CarPlay.

If the function is not present, first try to make sure that your iPhone has been connected to CarPlay at least once!

  • Notifications keep coming even though I have disabled their display in CarPlay!

In this case, try restarting your iPhone or iPad, and go back to check if the setting is still saved as you have decided. Usually a few more attempts may be required for machines that do not use a fully delegated CarPlay connection to the cellphone. In fact, some machines use to keep settings by themselves, sometimes reflecting those present on the Smartphone and synchronizing them accordingly.

If your machine insists on using the old settings, you can remove the connection of your mobile phone from its memory (and then synchronize it again) or reset the internal computer to the factory settings. Obviously, do this if you are absolutely certain that the problem comes from your machine's memory.

  • Isn't there an alternative means of blocking notifications?

Obviously there are some alternative means of blocking the display of notifications through CarPlay, but some sacrifices will naturally have to be made. For example, nothing will ever prevent you from blocking notifications in general, through the perennial exclusion in the settings (always by entering Notifications) or using some other method, such as using the "Time of use" function (also known as Screen Time).

In fact, this function allows you to limit some matters related to the mobile phone for a certain precise time, or according to our precise instructions. In this case it is possible to deactivate all notifications, but there is no need to reactivate them later: if it is set to deactivate notifications for a certain time limit, just organize that function according to our habits (for example, from 16 to 17 you are always behind the wheel) and therefore make sure to disable notifications during that period of time.
