Pets are cosmetic products in Sea of Thieves. They will stay on your ship and travel with you on your adventures, but they do not grant any in-game advantage over other players.
How to buy pets in Sea of Thieves
Pets can be purchased at the Pirate Emporium. You can find them at every outpost or in the main menu of the game. Animals are purchased with ancient coins. You can get Ancient Coins as Ancient Skeleton Drops that can spawn on Islands in Arena or Adventure mode.
You can also buy antique coins for real money.

You can also buy outfits for your pet, again using antique coins. Each animal type currently has the Sea Dog Outfit option for 249 antique pieces. You can only purchase the outfit after purchasing the relevant animal.
