Synology launches DSM 7.0 and renews its Synology C2 storage platform

Synology Inc. has announced the release of the final version of its DiskStation Manager (DSM) 7.0 operating system and the expansion of its C2 cloud storage platform with four new services. DSM 7.0 improves the security, system manageability and data sharing of Synology NAS and SAN. Additionally, and building on the success of C2 Storage, Synology has developed hybrid and cloud applications, including a new password manager, Directory as a Service (DaaS), a cloud backup system, and secure file sharing solutions.

"Being able to announce the release of the final version of DSM 7.0 is a source of pride for the entire Synology family, who have worked hard to make the new operating system a reality," said Philip Wong, CEO and founder of Synology. “We want to thank the efforts of all the people who have participated in the development of the software and our new solutions in the cloud, especially in the last year and a half. With the new products we want to cover the present and future needs of all our users ".

Synology edge solutions to address the challenges of data management

Synology has found that the generation of large amounts of unstructured data is more and more constant and that traditional centralized storage implementations cannot keep up with the growing demand for bandwidth and performance. "Cloud edge products, such as Synology's storage management line, are experiencing rapid growth in today's market because they uniquely address the challenges faced by modern businesses," says Wong.

More than eight million Synology data management solutions have been deployed worldwide 1, all powered by the DSM operating system. This makes DiskStation Manager the largest NAS operating system in the world, uniquely combining storage interoperability, data protection and backup capabilities, and robust synchronization solutions. All of this allows users to tackle the challenges of decentralization and relocation of work and data centers.

The release of DSM 7.0 2 is accompanied by the availability of new hybrid cloud services. Active Insight is a large-scale device diagnostics and monitoring solution; Hybrid Share combines the flexibility of C2 storage and synchronization capabilities with local solutions; and C2 Identity is a hybrid cloud directory as a service that simplifies domain management between 3 sites.

DSM 7.0 also offers platform enhancements, such as support for volumes up to 1 PB for large tasks, and introduces security enhancements in the form of Secure SignIn, a system that makes it easier to use two-factor authentication.

New solutions and data centers for Synology C2

Synology launches DSM 7.0 and renews its Synology C2 storage platform

Released immediately after DSM 7.0, C2 Password, C2 Transfer and C2 Backup are self-contained solutions that meet the needs of password protection, confidential file sharing and backup of any endpoint and common SaaS services in the cloud.

“After four years of using our cloud service, we were able to combine our data management experience with new technologies,” explains Wong. "In this way we have developed innovative optimizations that allow us to offer a reliable and extremely competitive solution."

This has led Synology to expand its data centers with the launch of a new office in Taiwan. This brings the Synology C2 portfolio closer to customers, reducing latency and improving the user experience to match that offered by Synology's local NAS and SAN solutions.

"DSM 7.0 and the new C2 expansion enhance Synology's new perspective on data management," says Wong. "We will continue to push boundaries through tighter integration, making the most of local and cloud structures."

Synology Photos, a secure alternative to public clouds

Synology launches DSM 7.0 and renews its Synology C2 storage platform

Synology Photos combines the functionality of Photo Station and Synology Moments to become the successor of both applications. Combine best photo archiving features with powerful new features in a fresh design. It is a renewed solution for easy file backup and sharing, ideal for professional photographers, hobbyists and home users.

Synology Photos allows you to set filters using artificial intelligence to recognize the people, places or landscapes photographed. Also, thanks to the metadata stored in the photo, you can filter by location data, date, or user created tags, to easily create albums.

Synology's new solution is also tailored to the needs of professionals, who will be able to take advantage of more technical filtering options, depending on the camera model, speed or aperture. Also simplified the organization of files by projects or according to the user to whom they are intended. To make sharing images safer and easier, Synology Photos allows you to grant custom access permissions, from view only to download or edit, and to set passwords for folders. It also does not require a program or profile on the platform to access the photos.

Availability

DSM 7.0 has passed a trial period of over 7 months and will be available on June 29th. 2. The new C2 solutions will be available on July 13th.
