How to reproduce
Let's start simple and grow in complexity from there. The basics of Temtem breeding are as follows. You need a male and female Temtem of the same type (see type table here), if they have two types then one must match and the resulting egg will produce a Temtem of the corresponding type. They also have to share a trait, which makes things more complicated than other creature collectors.
All you have to do is drop them off at the Breeding Center, a building found in The Canopath. Speak with the man here and choose which two you want to breed and it will show what the outcome will be and possibly give you an egg. This will usually take 10 minutes but can be shortened to 5 if both Temtem are of the same species or of the same evolutionary line. Find out how to hatch eggs here. The resulting Temtem will be of the same species as the mother.
However, it should be borne in mind that Temtem has a level of fertility which decreases with each time an egg is put on. It's usually set at 8, so keep track of how many eggs are produced and swap them out if you need to. If you have Essence of Fertility, you can use it to level them up and get another egg if you want. So those are the basics, but let's dive into the details, including some questions you might still have after reading this.
Where is the Temtem Breeding Center
Currently there is only one breeding center in Temtem, but more could be added as the game works through Early Access. It's in The Canopath, or Route 5 depending on how you like the names of your places. This is to the west of Nanga. Head there and follow the Free the Temtem signs and you will come to an open area with a grassy field. Head inside to find the Omninesia Breeding Center.
How inheritance works
Now that you know how to breed and where to breed Temtem, it's time to figure out what the results will be. Fortunately, you can see most of these when choosing which Temtem to breed, but knowing it beforehand will allow you to choose more carefully. Like I said, the resulting Temtem will be the same species as the mother, but what else is inherited?
First of all, the new Temtem will have the same level of fertility as the parent when the egg is created. Techniques will be inherited at random with no way to influence it yet. SV or unique values determine a lot the potency of the Temtem, they are chosen based on an algorithm with the new character having 40% chance to be better, 40% chance to be the same, and 20% chance to be the same. to be worse than his parents. Traits are not inherited at this time, so the new Temtem will receive those randomly assigned.
