Baldur's Gate 3 - How To Get Your Dog Scratched

Where to find Scratch the Dog

You can find Scratch west of Druid Grove. If you've been to Owlbear Cave, you can find the grieving dog of its previous owner a short distance north of there. You'll need to pass a few skill tests to successfully recruit Scratch, so make a quick save before you meet him if you're worried about losing him.

Once you find Scratch, you will see that its former owner is dead on the ground. If you talk to Scratch, you will have a few options. You can perform a perception test, an intimidation test or an animal management check. Any of the tests will be successful in recruiting the dog as long as you score high enough, so pick the option that you have the most bonus for. Towards the end of the conversation, you can reach out and give Scratch your scent. After that you can leave Scratch and he will appear at your party's camp two nights later.

Benefits of having Scratch

Scratch cannot be caught in battle or any adventure, but it can still do cool things in your camp. You can pet the dog in order to gain the approval of your companions. Some companions, like Lae'zel, will be indifferent to your dog, but animal lovers like Shadowheart will surely think higher of you after showing a little love to the dog. Scratch will also bring you a ball that you can throw for him, although there is no real benefit to that other than a nice scavenging game.

Sometimes Scratch will bring you a sleeve with useful items. You will need to take a Strength test to remove the pouch from the dog's mouth, but its contents are yours once you get it. The pouch sometimes contains unnecessary and unnecessary items, but sometimes healing potions or other useful items. Scratch isn't the only non-party member you can bring to your camp, but this dog can definitely help your party.
