This was mainly because the majority of the games felt like derivative buggy messes that never felt like a full experience. Well, now that doesn't seem to be the case anymore. Fast forward to 2020, however, and it looks like there are almost too many high-quality MMORPGs, which really look like a gamepad on console or PC. So let's take a look at the lot that has impressed and gathered a dedicated audience over the past few years.

We believe the best MMORPGs are the ones that vary in combat gameplay, as many feel like a long haul when you just press a single button to hack and cut. The relatively new Black Desert Mobile moves away from that, with every hit your sword feels so punchy. It also scratches all the itch of MMORPGs of fighting with friends, exploring a massive world, and spending hundreds of hours on quests.

Order & Chaos 2: Redemption

So you say you want World of Warcraft on mobile? Okay, it's doable - sort of. Order & Chaos 2: Redemption will be the closest players to this dream, as even the art style is oddly similar to it. In addition, the title also offers a number of camera customization options and controls, to really personalize the experience. There's no shortage of quests or storylines - as it's so gracefully detailed for a mobile game. There might be some connectivity issues from time to time, but no player can go wrong here.

Lineage 2: Revolution

Probably the best for MMO experts, every weapon and spell Lineage 2: Revolution is full of detailed stats. Plus, there are hundreds of ways to take out enemies, so the game always stays fresh. The only flaw is that its in-game HUD might seem a bit claustrophobic, but if that's something you're used to, Lineage 2: Revolution is a worthy MMORPG.

This 2D anime side scrolling is practically a new and improved version of the almost 20 year old PC game. It surely plays like it's intended for mobile from the start, as its colorful design shines unlike most iOS and Android devices. In July 2020, the game received a major update which added a number of new classes, as well as vicious boss battles. The PvP mode has drawn its own audience as well, so there is a lot to focus on in this absurd MMO.

Old School RuneScape

You and your friends can then attack the caves and face extremely difficult bosses. However, it is addicting, nonetheless. If you want something light, yet chaotic, Grow Stone Online is definitely for you.

Toram online

If the Tales series made its way to mobile with some MMORPG functionality, it would essentially be Toram online. It takes away a lot of basic features of the genre, like classes, and gives it its own twist. For one thing, rather than being a character who only masters one set of specific attacks, players will be tasked with filling out a skill tree to their liking, with a handful of unique abilities. Originality is rare in the genre, so Toram Online definitely gets our vote. However, yes, you can spend a tremendous amount of time doing questing and exploring just like any other in the genre.

Evil lands

The Elder Scrolls: Blades doesn't exactly fill that Skyrim - missing hole on mobile, as we'd hoped. Although, Evil Lands, graphically and in terms of gameplay, is almost a spitting image of the famous RPG. Don't worry about MMO fans, the title also has hundreds of other players roaming the world, with or against. The only flaw is that the tradition isn't too appealing, as it doesn't offer much of its own personality.
