Every great team in any MMO needs a strong tank in their ranks, and if you are looking to be that person for your team, then you will need to decide which tank you want to be.
When choosing a tank in Fina Fantasy XIV, you can choose from four classes that will influence your playstyle in the game: Paladin, Gunbreaker, Dark Knight, and Warrior. While anyone can fill this Tank role, each offers enough differences that some are better than others. That's why we've categorized each class based on how we think you can benefit from playing like them.

It's important to note that these are just our opinions on classes, and if you find yourself playing better as one of the lower ranked options, play with it. The skill of the player is much more important than the class itself.
4. Arms Breaker
Image via FFXIV WikiGunbreaker is the last option to come for Tanks in Final Fantasy XIV, and while it has borrowed a lot of the best qualities from the other three classes, it's also arguably the most difficult to play. While it's easier once you get the hang of it, it's this learning curve that can make it the lowest choice, especially for new players.
However, that doesn't mean it doesn't have its strengths. The Gunbreaker brings a large amount of DPS to raiding, has the most defensive cooldowns, as well as the highest actions you can perform per minute.
3. Warrior

It's the easiest of all tank classes to master and master, but it's this ease that holds it back a bit as well. While this is a solid choice at the start of the game, it can quickly become outdated as you level up and move on to endgame content.
It does fantastic damage and can deal a ton of damage, but it's the slowest of all tanks and its spin is pretty poor. If put in the hands of the right player, it can be very effective.
2. Dark Knights

You will unlock this class at level 50 and give you the ability to deal a lot of damage without be touched too much, thanks to the surprisingly strong mobility of this class.
Its abilities will keep you alive and make it easy for you to take on large swarms of enemies. it's considered one of the funniest classes in Tank, and it doesn't hurt that it looks really cool doing it.
1. Paladins

It's incredibly easy to learn to play as you go and deals massive damage, while protecting yourself with big defensive buffs. This is where his specialty lies: defense. But that doesn't mean it's boring to play.
Paladins have the best utility for groups, the only ranged combo among tanks, the ability to heal themselves and others, and many other abilities that can turn the tide of a battle. It's only fitting that in terms of lore, paladins are meant to protect, and that's exactly what this chariot can do.
