Discovering the new Samsung Galaxy A5

Il Galaxy A5At 7 millimeters, it is as thick as the iPhone 6 but still the camera lens protrudes a little from the body of the smartphone.

But what will this device have, apart from the design? First of all, goodbye plastic: the case is in fact metallic. Aesthetically, then, it is well made, elegant and despite being 13,9 centimeters long, it weighs only 123 grams. Even the matte finish is pleasant to the touch and in the test we appreciated its non-slip "gip".

The AMOLED display has a diagonal of 12,7 centimeters and, although the resolution is nothing special (1280 × 720 pixels), it has a high contrast. The processor is a Snapdragon 410 with four 1,19 GHz cores and the memory is 1,89 GB. This pairing guarantees high speed with both apps and games. Only the browser proved a bit slow during the test. Internal storage is 11,22GB, expandable up to 128GB using a microSDXC card.

On the other hand, the battery is bad: in the typical use test (internet, video and calls) it lasted only eight and a half hours, and among other things it is not replaceable by the user. Despite being brand new, the A5 does not use Android 5, but the older version 4.4.4. At the moment it is not known if and when this can be updated to version 5.

Turning to multimedia department, we can say that in the sunlight the A5 takes good photos. However, in low light the photos are too dark and digital noise is noticeable. Videos are shot in Full HD, but at a low level of detail. In conclusion, the A5 will not be the new benchmark among smartphones, but it is certainly the most chic of the Galaxy. In addition, for around 400 euros it offers adequate performance and equipment. The high-contrast display and LTE impress, but let the camera down when taking pictures in low light and lack both WLAN and Android 5.
