The Outer Worlds is a dynamic role-playing experience created by Obsidian Entertainment, the creative mind behind Fallout: New Vegas. Although a lot of time has passed since their Fallout title came out, it is still fondly remembered to this day. Many critics see a clear link between the two games. Like many solid RPG experiences, players wonder if they have the opportunity to connect with their companions and develop a romantic relationship with them. Is this possible in The Outer Worlds?
Do the outer worlds have romantic options?
The Outer Worlds is a great game. While not an open-world game, Obsidian has made it clear that they want players to approach each quest with an open mind, encouraging exploration and creativity. Much of the creative thinking comes down to how a player wants to play their game, and companions play a crucial role in it. Obsidian didn't want players to limit their choices based on whether or not they were romantically involved.
Taking this into account, the developers decided not to use romance options for companions or other NPCs. Unfortunately, there is no love in this part of the galaxy. The reason for this choice was to prevent players from automatically choosing or immediately having a mate around whom they could extend the relationship and create something. Without any option for romance, they wanted to free the players and their choice.
Obsidian is unlikely to add these options in the future with any DLC or expansions for the game. While this may disappoint others, it does mean they have a bit more flexibility when it comes to them. Sure, some characters may rub players the wrong way or not match their playstyle, but that's never a problem. A player still has the option of creating a new character and finding previously hated or hated companions who now function as their best friend.
