Does your birthday affect your door-to-door abilities in a Death Stranding?

At the very start of your Death Stranding Playthrough, you will be prompted to enter your birthday. The game hints that this may impact your DOOMS, your character's ability to detect the presence of BT. The other characters in the game also have DOOMS abilities, but in your case, they make you perfectly suited to be a carrier. Nothing like being able to detect the presence of these bulky BTs to facilitate parcel delivery.

When you enter your date of birth, the game will tell you that people born at certain times of the year may have higher levels of DOOMS. He specifically names the constellations Cancer, Pisces, Cetus, Delphinus and Gigas. If you want to enter a date that will correspond to one of these constellations, they are:

  • Cancer - June 21 to July 23
  • Pisces - February 19 to March 20
  • Cetus - Any date in November
  • Delphinus - Any date in September
  • Gigas - Any date January

At the moment, no one knows if this will have any effect in the game. It's entirely possible that some form of secrecy, or a bit of narrative, is hidden behind the "correct" date of birth. But let's be honest here: Kojima has already asked us all to change our controllers to win a boss fight, so there's no way of knowing what might happen in Death Stranding.

What we do know is that if you play the game on your birthday, you will receive a cake. How nice! Personally, we don't think there is much behind your birthday if it's hiding a secret, as it might embarrass anyone celebrating a birthday outside of these dates. Maybe it'll tie into an NPC character, and maybe explain how a person like Fragile can do what they do. (We won't go into more detail on her, for fear of hitting someone with an unwanted spoiler.)
