It's also worth noting that you can earn all faction rewards from both groups. At the end of the story, you'll pull off a big heist and have to choose whether to give it to one faction or the other, or share the winnings. Before starting this quest, it is possible to complete all faction story quests for both groups. This is much harder to do after completing this quest - especially if you decide to keep all of the ingots.

The two main factions are located at the Foundation and the Crater - the Settlers and the Raiders. The Settlers are the “right” faction, and the Raiders are the “wrong” faction. If you follow along, you will immediately know which types are good and which types are bad.
You can easily work with both factions until the end, so if you're aiming to unlock each faction reward, stop before the final grand mission in the storyline. You can go back and complete jobs for the rival faction and earn all the big rewards.

It all comes down to one big question - do I want the Chinese stealth armor or the Gauss minigun? Do I want an automatic ammunition builder or an automatic fertilizer builder? I recommend playing through both scenarios and then looting the vault at the end to improve your reputation for the Raiders.
This way you can get the automatic ammo builder, which when built into your base automatically generates ammo for you. It's much cooler than the lame manure self-builder you get for reaching the maximum number of settler faction representatives.
