With that in mind, we explore the shallow waters of the side quests and reveal everything you need to know about each quest. Finding them isn't much of a problem - side quests will appear on your map in some chapters. The real trick is to complete them, and if you're aiming for specific rewards, we've listed them under each entry.

Chapter 3 - Residential area side quests
Lost friends: You will have to find three lost white cats.
- Chat # 1: Outside of the seventh heaven.
- Chat # 2: Near the TV bar on the way to the sector 7 slum station.
- Chat # 3: Crawl in the alley in front of the Cloud hotel.
- Reward: Maiden’s Kiss x1, 250 Gil
Chadley Report: Use Evaluate to analyze different types of enemies. Complete side quests to encounter Drakes, Gorgers, and other creatures to scan.
- Reward: Unlocks Chadley's Store - Reset Upgrades and Hardware
Rat problem: Defeat Wererats and Doomrats. Go twice to the empty land north of the seventh heaven.
- Reward: 5 Hi-Potion Item Shop Discounts - Unlock the "On The Prowl" side quest.
Nuclear power in the factory: Eliminate the Drakes in the Abandoned Factory.
- Reward: 500 Gil, new discounts - Unlocks the "Just Flyw In from the Graveyard" side quest.
On the lookout: Defeat Wrath of Anger in Scrap Boulevard.
I just returned from the cemetery: Defeat the Cerulean Drake in the Abandoned Factory. Smash crates to find the key to enter his lair.
- Reward: Articles, nothing special
Alone finally (discovery): After completing the Johnny encounter outside of Seventh Heaven, return to Cloud's hotel room to experience this optional event.
Chapter 6 - Lower level side quests
Collapsed passage (discovery): In chapter 6, when you reach section G, go down to the lower level of the plate, section G Access Utility. Unlocks when you try to cross the bridge.
- Reach the loading platform and go down the ladder before going to the third solar light.
- Lower the bridge completely to retrieve the MP Up Materia.
- Line up the bridge to find the Elemental Materia.
- Reward: Elementary material
Behind the fan (discovery): You will see this Materia behind the huge fans along the wall of the lower level of the plaque. This is where you'll find the optional summon of Moogle and Chocobo.
- Towards the end of the dungeon, deactivate two (of the three) last solar lights and use the optional platform to the right of the loading platform.
- Go up to the control room and defeat the enemies in less than a minute to reach this rare material.
- If you fail once, come back and the battle will be easier.
- Reward: Moogle and Chocobo summon the Materia
Chapter 7 – Mako Reactor 5 Side-Quests
Waste recovery (discovery): In Chapter 7, at Mako Reactor 5 - Front Gate, complete the second lockdown mini-game to gain access to the Shinra Vault where you can collect the items left behind by Waste Wasteal. If you select M units, you will get:
- Rewards:
- 2 bottles of ether
- 2 tufts of Phoenix Down
- 2 Hi-Potions
Chapter 8 - Sector 5 Slum Side Quests
The door does not open (Discover): After leaving the sector 5 station, you will enter a dustbin passage. Aerith will ask you to use the door switch - when that doesn't work, this side quest will appear.
- When you meet your first enemy Smogger, through another door you will find a ladder in the back right. This brings us back to the locked door.
- Reward: No reward here. It just unlocks a shortcut in the area.
The mysterious merchant Moogle: Available after saving the children in the slums in Sector 5. All you need to do is hand in the Moogle Merchant 1 Moogle Medal. There is one in the chest to the left of him.
- Reward: Unlock the Google merchant! He carries unique weapons and items.
Children on patrol: Find the five children in the slums of Sector 5 - District Center. Look for children with wooden swords on their backs. After you find all the children, you will have to fight a variant of monster in front of the secret hiding place.
- Child # 1: On a girl outside the community center to the left of the orphanage.
- Child # 2: Continue to the left until you find a tunnel made with a concrete cylinder. One of the children is inside.
- Child # 3: A girl is right in front of the object shop.
- Child # 4: Another child is right next to the gun store.
- Child # 5: The last child is standing right at the city gate.
- Reward: Nail Bat (Cloud Weapon), the side quest "A Verified Hero" is unlocked.
Weapons on a rampage: Defeat all special enemy variants in the dungeon outside the Sector 5 slums. These tough Shinra robots can only be damaged after dropping their physical immunity shield. Trade with Aerith and use her standard attack to drop their shields so Cloud can strike.
- Reward: Protective boots, “Paying Respects” side quest unlocked.
A verified hero: Go back to the hideout of the children's secret to play "Whack-A-Box" - earn 30 points for the best prizes.
- Reward: Elixir (10000), Crescent Moon Charm (20000), Spectral Gear (30000)
Pay tribute: You will have to fight creatures in the graveyard. Make sure you buy the Cemetery Key from the Moogle Store before you go. Defeat all three Tough Venomantis to complete the quest.
The angel of the slums: Return to the Secret Kids' Hideout after completing 'Kids on Patrol' to unlock this side quest.
Chapter 9 - Walls Market Side Quests
Burn the thighs: Found in the training room, this is a mini squat game. Win more matches to unlock better ranks.
- Reward: Unlocked Squat-Off mini-game. 3 mega-points (trainee), Luck Up Materia (amateur), Champion Belt (Pro)
The price of the flight: Hunt down a group of thieves. This one can be tricky. Barrier and fire materia will help you.
- Reward: Turbo Ether, “Shear's Counterattack” side quest unlocked
Shear's Counterattack: Return to the Colosseum and select 'Special Battle'. Use Cloud's Punisher Mode to easily defeat this mini-boss.
- Reward: Arcane Scepter (Aerith Weapon)
