Marvel's Avengers had their first War Table livestream on Wednesday, June 24, and revealed a ton of new information about the upcoming game. Part of what was revealed was the cooperative mode of the action-adventure game called War Zones.

What is War Zones mode in Marvel's Avengers?
Image via press.na.square-enix.comWarzone Missions are explorable, semi-open levels that take place across the world, and contain primary objectives and side missions that you can take part in.
Objectives wise, there are a lot of side missions apart from your main mission. There are secret caches to discover - filled with high-level loot and gear - as well as powerful enemies to defeat, AIM depots to destroy, and allies to rescue. There are six types of missions in War Zone:
- Iconic Missions - Hero-specific levels that build on their unique post-A-Day stories
- Faction Missions - Levels that require you to rebuild outposts for your allies
- Drop Zones - Short missions with a singular objective
- Vaults - Large explorable areas. You will need to locate the secret coordinates of SHIELD in order to discover them
- Hives - strongholds of advanced mechanics of ideas (AIM) that needed to be done away with
- Villains Sector - Levels that end with boss fights against iconic Marvel villains
War Zone missions allow you to tackle objectives as you see fit. Different players can approach them in different ways and take on different parts of the mission if they wish. However, since this is a cooperative mode, you will have the best chance of success by working as a team to take down your enemies and complete missions.
How do I access War Zone missions in Marvel's Avengers?
Image via press.na.square-enix.comWar zones can be started from the war table. These are areas found in Outposts, Quinjets, or the Chimera Helicarrier. The last of these three becomes your "home port" and can be upgraded as you progress through the story and war missions.
To interact with a war table, simply walk towards it and press the Interact button - or the key if you're on PC - to bring up its card. From here you can select single or multiplayer missions to complete.
The Warzone Missions display suggests difficult power levels and settings before you decide to start them as well. Difficulty settings can be adjusted and the more difficult a mission, the better loot you will get at the end. Power levels, on the other hand, will prevent you from accessing certain missions until you reach the required level.
Can I play War Zone missions solo in Marvel's Avengers?
Image via press.na.square-enix.comYes you can. While Warzone Missions are best experienced with up to three other players, you can play them on your own. If you complete these missions solo, you can choose from AI companions - which you unlocked through story mode - to join you.
If you choose to play them on a player-controlled team, you'll board a Quinjet and matchmaking will connect you with other players. If you already have three friends you want to fight with, you should be able to invite them on missions before you jump in as well.
