How to become a mentor in Final Fantasy XIV

How to become a mentor in Final Fantasy XIV

The Mentor system was introduced for Final Fantasy XIV during Heavensward to provide novice players with an in-game opportunity to identify more experienced players.

Becoming a mentor in FFXIV offers some rewards. You can access each server's Novice network, which is the game's only real public chat. You will be able to change your status to Mentor and create a crown icon next to your name that a lot of people like to wear. If you party with a new Adventurer below level 20, they'll earn bonus XP for any content you complete together.

Only PvE mentors can participate in Mentor Roulette, which offers its own set of rewards, including Astrope, a prestigious 2-seater mount.

You can choose to gain mentor status either by battle, crafting / gathering, or both. The list of requirements below has been updated to reflect the changes introduced in Shadowbringers in patch 5.1.

PvE Mentor Requirements

  • Complete 1500 dungeons, raids, or trials
  • Receive 1000 praise from players
  • Complete any level 80 tank role quest
  • Complete any level 80 healer role quest
  • Complete any level 80 DPS role quest

If you are having difficulty meeting these requirements, there are several ways to upgrade to the power level. To meet the 1500 instance requirement, many people are running Unsynchronized Normal Bowl of Embers. If you need to farm Commendations, the easiest method is to run Guilds as a Tank or Healer.

Sales mentor requirements

  • Collect or grab 300 collectibles
  • Craft 100 collectibles
  • Reach level 80 in any disciple of the hand
  • Reach level 80 in any disciple in the country

Collectibles crafted for any of the Custom Delivery NPCs count toward this total. Note that collectibles do not need to be turned over to count. This is especially important for pickers; the items you collect do not have to meet the minimum collection requirements to be transformed into Rowena's House of Splendors.

Registration as a mentor

Once you've met one of these sets of requirements, speak with the Smith at one of these locations to sign up as a mentor:

  • New Gridania (X: 11, Y: 13)
  • Upper Bridges of Limsa Lominsa (X: 11, Y: 11)
  • Ul’dah – Steps of Nald (X: 11.8, Y: 9)
  • South Shroud (X: 19, Y: 18)
  • Central Suaire (X: 10, Y: 22)
  • Central Suaire (X: 19, Y: 28)
  • West of La Noscea (X: 28, Y: 24)
  • Western Thanalan (X: 27, Y: 16)
  • Eastern Thanalan (X: 14, Y: 30)

The requirements of mentoring changed during Shadowbringers; If you were a mentor before but can no longer access the Novice Network or Mentor Roulette, you will need to recertify with an NPC Smith.
