How to clean iPhone: useful tips

How many times has it happened to you to grab a microfiber cloth to remove the annoying fingerprints of the iPhone screen? And what if, from time to time, you go a little deeper, using specific accessories to disinfect the same device? It is actually an action that in a few (and few times) they perform, but which would solve the problem of germs on one of the objects that we touch several times during the day: the smartphone. In this guide we will therefore go to see just the necessary items, and how to exploit them, to completely disinfect iPhone.

What you need to disinfect iPhone

So let's start with what is needed to disinfect both the front and back of the iPhone. This is absolutely within everyone's reach and does not imply any excessive purchase. In fact, Apple itself, within its support pages, basically recommends two elements: a classic microfiber cloth (the one that is also used to clean eyeglass lenses) and wipes soaked with 70% Isopropyl Alcohol. Pay attention to this last point, since other types of wipes may have no effect or, even, damage the internal and external components of the device.

Once you have purchased the necessary, everything will be ready to start manual cleaning of the iPhone. If, on the other hand, you want to opt for something more technological, automatic and “in step with the times”, there will also be an interesting alternative at the end of the guide.

Steps to disinfect iPhone

So let's get to the point and try to understand how to properly use the previously purchased tools. The steps will be basically the same on both sides of the iPhone, but with one little extra attention in the area of the camera on the back and the holes for the earphone case on the front. But let's go in order.

Before starting, we obviously recommend that you remove iPhone from any covers used, of turn off the device completely and, if it is connected to a power source, disconnect it from the power supply. Also, even if it is not mandatory, we encourage you to perform the operations with something soft down (on the sofa, bed or with a pillow), as the wipes could slide the iPhone out of your hands.

Disinfect iPhone from the front

So let's start from the front of the iPhone, which is the one with which you interact most during the day. The first thing to do will be to remove the fingerprints and any dust accumulated on the front of the device.

For this reason it will be necessary to hold the microfiber cloth (that of the glasses) and start to make circular and delicate movements all over the glass panel. We recommend repeating the operation several times to be sure that the cleaning takes effect.

Next, it will be time to start using the wipes soaked with 70% Isopropyl Alcohol. Generally these are packaged individually, so just take one out of the package, unwrap it and perform a very gentle cleaning of the screen. In this case, however, we invite you to be very careful and avoid the holes on the panel, as they could seriously damage the internal components of the iPhone.

Once the "second hand" is also completed, it will be necessary dry everything using the microfibre cloth again. So be careful not to use paper towels (or similar), as they could be damaged by rubbing and leave traces on the smartphone.

Disinfect iPhone from the front

Just as mentioned above, the steps to take will be basically the same. First of all, it will therefore be necessary to gently wipe the microfibre cloth over the entire panel, then clean, always paying close attention to the speaker and microphone holes at the bottom and the camera at the top, using a soaked wipe and finally dry everything with the microfibre cloth.

Disinfect iPhone with special tools

Before closing with the guide, here is a much more technological and modern alternative. In fact, there are many accessory manufacturers who have decided to market real ones mechanical sterilizers using UV rays. Among the many, we recommend that of Lecone, also suitable for other small accessories (such as wireless earphones for example) and very pleasant in design.

Its operation is quite simple, as it will be enough to open the lid, insert the iPhone inside it, close the lid and click on the only button on the front of the device. The operations will therefore be completely automatic and it will only be necessary to wait for the sterilization process to end.
