How to download or update to Windows 10 April 2018 Update

The update was officially released on April 30th Windows 10 April 2018 Update, or better known as the Windows 10 Spring Creators Update. This is the first major update of 2018 and brings with it the version 1803. To install this new update you can proceed in two ways, depending on the situation in which we find ourselves. In this case, you will not need to perform a clean installation of Windows, as this is a simple update. If we have already installed Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, we just need to update our computer. If, on the other hand, we do not have the latter version installed, we will have to download the Media Creation Tool or download the ISO file and install the operating system via a bootable USB stick.

Update from Windows 10 Fall Creators Update

To check the version of the operating system installed on your computer, just go to the Settings, click on the item System and move to the section Informazioni su. The version number consists of 4 digits indicating the year and month of the update release. The Fall Creators Update number is 1507.

If we see this identification code, we can directly update our computer to the new version of Windows 10.

1. We open the Settings;
2. We click on the item Update and security;
3. We click on the option Windows Update, placed in the left side menu.

Once this is done, the PC will start searching for new updates. Once the version is found 1803, the download will start automatically, or we can start it manually by clicking on Download.

Update with Media Creation Toool

If we have not installed version 1803, we have to proceed with a slightly more complicated procedure. Using this method, we will be able to download the Media Creation Tool and update the PC directly. Alternatively, we can download the ISO file of the new version and create a installation support (USB or DVD) which will allow us to install the new update from Microsoft.

1. Let's go to the this page of Microsoft;
2. We click on the item Download the tool now;
3. Let's start the Media Creation Tool just downloaded.

Direct update

By selecting the option Update now clicking on your NEXT, Microsoft's tool will download the latest available version of the operating system, that is Windows 10 April 2018 Update. Once the download is complete, we will be able to install the new update directly without creating any installation media.

Download ISO file and create installation media

If instead we want to create a bootable USB stick, we must select the option Create installation media (USB flash drive, DVD or ISO file) for another PC. We click on NEXT and we leave the settings that we are suggested to default. At this point, we have to choose between two options.

We select ISO file if we want to download the file directly, specifying the saving path.

We select USB flash drive to create one instead bootable USB stick which will allow us to install the operating system on another PC. The key must have a minimum size of 8 GB. Once you have chosen this option, a wizard will start that will help us create the media.
