Talking to ghosts in Phasmophobia is a vital part of the gameplay. By talking to spirits you are on the hunt helps you focus on their ghost type. As a four-player co-op title, it's also important to chat with your teammates, so you know what you're all up to, where you are, and if you run into any ghost evidence.
So phasmophobia mic malfunction is a big problem. Several users took to the Game Page Reddit and Steam Community Center to ask them why they can't get their mic working or their teammates can't hear them in voice chat.
At present, there is no official solution. Kinetic Games took to the Phasmophobia Steam Forums in late September to confirm that they are aware of the issue and are looking into it.
In the meantime, there are temporary fixes that might fix the problem. The first thing you can try is to use the in-game audio test. Open the options menu and head to the audio section. Look for the voice recognition option and click "test." Speak into your microphone. If it records your voice, your audio is working. Go back and load a new map to see if it works.
If your friends still can't hear you, quit Phasmophobia and head to the audio section of the Windows 10 control panel. Scroll down until you see “input device”. Make sure the microphone you are using is set to the default device. Otherwise, select it as the default microphone from the drop-down menu. Click on "OK" and reload Phasmophobia.
If that also fails, there are two final options available to you. The first is to avoid alt tabs or minimize playing. Strangely, this breaks the connection between your playing and audio, so don't do that.
The other option is to download a beta version of Phasmophobia from Steam. Close the game and open your Steam library. Right-click Phasmophobia, then click Properties. Under the Betas tab, select "beta - unstable version" and close the window. Steam will download a beta version of the game. This should include a fix that fixes the bug, so relaunch Phasmophobia and find out if that's the case.
