How to get an empty egg and start the Starbirth mission in No Man's Sky

Living Ships in No Man's Sky are organic, living ships that you can pilot in space. They're as disgusting as they are awesome, and in this guide we're going to tell you everything you need to know to get an Empty Egg, where the living ships come from.

To get your hands on an Empty Egg, you'll need to head into space and summon the Anomaly. Once done, visit the Quicksilver merchant. You can buy an empty egg there for 3200 Quicksilver. If you don't have enough Quicksilver, it's time to cut some Daily and Weekly Nexus Missions.

What does an empty egg do?

The Void Egg is the key to starting the new mission to get your ship alive. With the empty egg in your inventory, you need to make your way to the vastness of space, then start warping jumping. It will take a random number of chain jumps to trigger your Empty Egg, so you can focus on the jumps until it happens or just let it happen naturally if you want to focus on other things. When the Void Egg finally activates, you will receive a message on your communicator. This is the start of the Starbirth story, so be sure to keep some detailed notes from this point on.

Record the message you may receive, as there are thirteen possible messages you may receive. You will receive new messages at intervals that appear to be random. The first twelve messages are actually references to some glyph locations that you will need later, while the last will indicate which galaxy you need to be in to advance the quest.

After that comes a long chain of events that we're still working on, but we'll have some relevant guides for you as soon as we get familiar with this new quest.
