There are three different curses available in Sea of Thieves. They are an element of vanity, which means they have no direct change in the way you play the game and serve as a cosmetic piece to have on your character while exploring the game.
Here are the three curses available in the game:
- Curse of the Order: "Wear the dark stains of the Order of Souls, caused by using Kraken ink to see beyond this world." With this item equipped, your character's eyes will run ink.
- Shores of Gold Curse: “Many Gold Hoarders fall under this curse. How many treasures have passed through your hands? When you wear this item, random parts of your character's body will have multiple pieces of gold on it.
- The Curse of Ashes: "The fiery rage of an ash lord has gripped you, but it is better to exhaust yourself than to disappear ..." Your body transforms to show a magma-like structure as if your insides were those of an erupting volcano.
You can trade and equip these curses in any of the Vanity Chests. You can find them outside clothing stores or on your ship. You can earn these curses by completing specific Tall Tale challenges and receiving praise for them.

- The Hunter's Trail - Discover all Bounty Hunter logs
- Briggsy's Greatest Foe - Complete the Tall Tale 5 times
- Shores of Gold Curse: Complete all commendations for the Shores of Gold Tall story.
- The Legendary Island - Reach the Golden Shores
- Path to Forsaken Fortune - Discover the Hoarder Gold Coin
- Shores of Gold – Complete Shores of Gold
- The Stain of Greed - Discover all of Briggsy's diaries
- Lord of Gold - Flip the skull of the gold hoarder 5 times
- Curse of the Ashes: Complete all commendations for Heart Tale of Fire.
- Liar's Hideout - Discover Stitcher Jim's Hideout
- The Path of the Eternal King - Take the Path of the Eternal King
- Path of the Abandoned Flame - Take the Path of the Abandoned Flame
- The Burning Heart Path - Take the Burning Heart Path
- The Fire Rises - Discover the Rage Chest
- Stitcher's Schemes - Explore Stitcher Jim's Diaries
- Heart of Fire - Complete Story
- Saver of Souls - Complete the Tall Tale 3 times
Congratulations revolve around completing the Tall Tale at least once and then you have to repeat it five times except for The Ashen Curse which is only three times. These are not available for every Tall Tale in Sea of Thieves. You will likely have new Tall Tales in the future with additional Curses, and to unlock them you will have to repeat the content a few times. It sure helps to have a team with you when you finish them so that everything goes much faster.
