Dawning started in Destiny 2, and you know what that means. The time for cookies has arrived. Part of the Dawning event is making lots of tasty treats for various NPCs in the game. To do this you need lots of different ingredients, but each recipe also requires Essence of Dawning. As such, you'll need a lot of this ingredient, and knowing how to get it is essential.
Essence of Dawning will disappear when you've completed just about any activity in the game. Different activities will give you different amounts, so it's a good idea to know how much will drop from each, so you can decide how to spend your time. time.

Eva Levante will also have Daily Bounties you can do that will reward you with Essence of Dawning, you can get them from her in the Tower, near Eververse.
One of the best ways to get Essence of Dawning right now is through simple AFK farming. An old technique that the Guardians will know again for Dawning. If you put the equipment very low and load it into a forge, you can stand there and wait until part one fails, and receive Essence of Dawning for doing so.
You need to put on low level gear to make sure you don't log out during AFK, and also to make sure you're not loaded into Forges where other players are actively trying to complete the event. To get low level gear, simply open your inventory, then go to Collections and take out your class's starter gear. This should lower your power level to around level four hundred, making sure you don't interfere with anyone trying to properly complete a Forge event.
