Sawmills are useful to have on hand in Terraria for some advanced woodworking craft projects. Fortunately, putting the ingredients together isn't too difficult, especially when you actually need everything the sawmill produces, but making one from scratch is a laborious process. Here's how to make a sawmill in Terraria, starting with having absolutely nothing.
Make the necessary tools
To craft a sawmill, you must first craft a few other tools - a workbench, an anvil, and an oven. If you already have one, you can skip to the next section, if not, read on.
All you need to do to craft one is collect 10 wood from nearby trees, then open your crafting menu and select a workbench.
Then you will need an oven. To craft one, you need 20 stone blocks, four woods, and three torches (which can be crafted from a wood and gel if you don't have one on hand). Bring all the ingredients to a workbench and you can craft an oven.
Finally, you will need an anvil. To make one, you will need five iron bars or five lead bars. Whichever one you go with, you will need to collect a total of 15 ores (three for each bar) and then use the oven to turn them into bars. Bring your five bars to the work bench and you can craft an anvil.
Build the sawmill
Once you've set up your workbench, anvil, and oven, you're about to build a sawmill. Crafting a sawmill on the bench requires 10 lumber, two iron or lead bars, and a chain. You can turn an iron bar into an anvil chain, so you will need three bars in total. Once you have all of that, simply craft the chain at your anvil and take all the ingredients to your workbench where you can make a sawmill.
