How to uninstall Google Play Services

Premise

Before discovering the steps to follow to proceed with the uninstalling the Big G app, maybe you would like to understand specifically how it works. Google Play Services deals with managing updates of the functionality of both applications and services created by the Mountain View giant on its mobile operating system Android.



In the first releases of the OS, the applications and services of Google they were only updated with each major update of the operating system. Thanks to the implementation of Google Play Services, however, this no longer happens, hence the various software series they receive updates regardless of the version of the operating system installed on the device.

How to uninstall Google Play Services

In case you have not solved with the information provided above, you can consider the uninstalling the service. In the next lines we will provide you with two procedures to follow depending on whether or not you have a rooted device. Either way, we advise you first make a full backup of your Android device so as to restore it in case of problems. You can refer to our dedicated guides.



Without root

The method in question can be done very simply using a computer with Windows, MacOS o Linux. In case this is the first connection of the device to your computer, you will have to first install the drivers. These can be found on the manufacturer's website or on the appropriate page of the site Android Developer.

Once this is done, download and install the software ADB depending on whether you have Windows, macOS or Linux. Then, extract the contents of the downloaded zip archive using a special software (eg. WinRAR) in an easily accessible folder.

  • Connect the smartphone to the computer using the USB cable supplied (being careful to have activated the MTP protocol) and open the folder where you extracted ADB.
  • Once this is done, open a window of the Command Prompt holding down the button Shift on the keyboard and right-clicking on an empty spot on the screen and choose Open Command Prompt here.
  • From the window that opens, type the command adb devices and press the button Submit on the keyboard. At this point, a window should appear on the smartphone asking you to give consent to the PC to access. Press on OK I will continue.
  • If all went well, the window of the Command Prompt will show you the code of your terminal next to the item device. If successful, type the command adb shell and you Submit.
  • At this point, use the command pm list packages | grep 'google' and you Submit to view system applications (in this case from Google).
  • From the list that appears, locate the package with the name com.google.android.gms (corresponding to Google Play Services), use the command pm uninstall -k –user 0 com.google.android.gms and press Submit to proceed with uninstalling the app.
  • If it appears Success it means that the application has been successfully uninstalled.

If you were in possession of a Mac, you will have to use terminal instead of the Command Prompt. This can be found in the folder Applications present in Dock or look for it through Spotlight.



How to uninstall Google Play Services

Con root

If, on the other hand, you have an Android device with root permissions or you want to get them, you can take advantage of a completely free application called Root App Deleter which can be downloaded for free from the Google Play Store.

Let's see how to use it:

  • Once you have downloaded and installed the software on your device with root, grant him permission by pressing up Authorize and then tap on System apps.
  • After pressing on the item For, found Google Play Services in the list that appears (easily recognizable in red as this is a system app that shouldn't be touched in any way).
  • To proceed with the uninstallation, click on its name, press the button Uninstall on the next screen and confirm by pressing on OK from the notice that appears.

If you have second thoughts, you can reinstall the Google Play Services finding it on the Play Store. Alternatively, if the Big G market doesn't work, we suggest you use the excellent website APKMirror which is among the most reliable where to download APK files.

Of course, since this is an installation outside the Play Store, you need to activate the Unknown sources option. If you don't know how to proceed, take the steps you find in our dedicated guide as a reference.

Once enabled, connect to the page reserved for Google Play Services of the site of APKMirror, locate the section Download and press on number of the latest version available (Eg. 14.8.47 (000300-228741232) of 12 January 2019). After clicking on the link, wait for the countdown to finish, press the button Download aPK and continue with the installation by pressing on apri, Install e end.

How to disable Google Play Services

If you don't want to proceed with the uninstallation, then you can take advantage of a less "aggressive" solution by going to disable from Settings.

Let's see the steps to follow:

  • Open the Settings di Android as indicated above and locate the menu reserved for applications (Applications, App o App and notification).
  • In the new screen that opens, press on 3 dots at the top right and choose the option Show system apps give the menu to compare.
  • Now, locate Google Play Services and click on it to access its page.
  • To proceed with the deactivation, first tap on disable and then Deactivate app. If you change your mind, you can reactivate it by choosing Attiva.

In the event that the button does not appear, then, always from the page of Play Services, pressed on 3 dots at the top right and choose Uninstall updates, confirming by pressing on OK.
