How to unlock the Cultist in Exit the Gungeon

In Enter the Dungeon, the Cultist was a cooperative companion with a passive called Number 2. In this spinoff sequel, the Cultist has his own abilities and is a solo player. The Cultist was promised as a solo option in the original Get Out of the Gungeon ad on Reddit by the developers. Here's how to access this unique hidden character.

How to unlock the cultist

A pair of reports from the game's exclusive Apple Arcade days suggest the Cultist isn't as straightforward as it sounds. Some players have unlocked the Cultist and the Robot at the same time. Unless players strive to complete, the Cultist won't be as easily unlocked as the Bullet. Players who are happy with a run will need to intentionally continue to progress to unlock the Cultist.

The Cultist appears as the first game, wearing a purple robe with a hidden face and glowing yellow eyes. The Cultist will unlock after escaping the Gungeon with all four main characters.

As with the other characters, the Cultist has his own passive ability to help him through the dungeon. Unlike previous characters, the Cultist was not originally a solo character and his original passive reflected that.

In Break Out of the Gungeon, the Cultist has Banana Jam Hands, a passive that increases weapon change speed. Weapons change quickly already, but there may be a brief pause during the exchange, especially in the middle of the shot. Increasing the speed will allow players to get back to fighting the wave of enemies faster. While it can be tempting to stop after you manage to exit the dungeon with just one character, go ahead and take all four main characters to safety to gain access to the Cultist.
