Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire - Rest Characters Guide

If you are a lover of role-playing games with a high strategic component, you will surely have already dived in Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire . As the most passionate fans will surely know, there are many new features introduced by this second installment of the saga by Obsidian Entertainment. However, an element of which do not underestimate the importance is that of rest; we will have to make our characters sleep often, but not for a simple affectation or for the needs of realism, but because it will be the only safe way to heal their wounds that, otherwise, could even prove deadly. Precisely for this reason, in this guide of ours, we shall list all the places where it will be possible for members of our parties to rest, so that they may not die prematurely.

Where to let the party members rest in Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire

As we pointed out earlier, letting our characters rest will not be a mere tinsel of gameplay. Every member of our team will suffer injuries that, if they reach a certain amount, will make them die permanently. For that very reason, it will always be better to let the team rest, allowing them to heal properly. Going down a little more 'in detail, in Deadfire you can find various "rest options", both in the camps that we will find along the way and in real rooms, in the inns of the cities that we will visit.

The advantages of resting in an inn room

Here are some points to consider for your first game of the game.

As you can easily deduce, our team will benefit from the most "restful" rest in the inns' rooms. In every town, village or camp we visit it will be possible to sleep in a room with a bed, for a fair payment, we mean. What may come as a surprise to some is the number of options available related to rest: each inn will provide several rooms, each with its own cost. A first room will simply heal the wounds of your team members, but there will often be other rooms available which, at a higher cost, will not only remove your wounds and status changes, but will also provide you with statistics bonuses, which will extend to your next rest.

It goes without saying that, of course, the various options we have talked about now will depend directly on the money at our disposal and the progress made in the game. In that respect, it will certainly be convenient to get bonus stats from rest when we're about to face a very challenging quest.

A small final note: before asking the inn manager for the room, always ask if he has any missions to assign you. If you manage to solve them, in fact, the cost of resting in the rooms could decrease significantly.

The advantages of resting anywhere on the game map

Here are the advantages of rest.

Of course, you can also choose to rest while you explore the game world; however, you should only resort to this gimmick when the characters in your team have suffered a large number of injuries. For example, if your team members have lost an entire health bar due to enemy attacks or traps and are close to death (which will be caused by a fourth injury), it will be practically essential to rest in any available place. To do so, press the R button or click the right icon at the bottom of the screen to rest before reaching a village or any other location with rest rooms.

Compared to the first Pillars of Eternity, in this Deadfire the rules for using the rest option anywhere on the world map are slightly different. In Pillars of Eternity 2, in fact, you won't need any kind of material to build a camp. In this second chapter of the saga, therefore, the option we are talking about is completely free, but it may not be available in some locations. For example, you may not be able to rest freely inside a village or near the hideout of some monsters.

Another important innovation introduced in this sequel is the way wounds are healed. You can actually achieve this by simply moving the food in the special spaces next to the thumbnail images of the various characters in our team. Remember that you can choose from all types of food, so you can effectively heal wounds and at the same time get some bonuses to your stats for a limited period of time (such as faster healing or extra points for one of the parameters).

Remember, finally, that you will also need food for the crew of your ship. Using too much food to heal wounded members of your crew could cost valuable supplies.
